Nigeria Records 157 Monkeypox Cases, 4 Deaths

The Nigeria Center for Disease Control confirmed the development saying it is across 26 states in the country.

The NCDC disclosed this in its latest monkey-pox situation report for week 30.

Nigeria is one of the countries in Africa where the disease is endemic.

The agency said from January 1 to July 31, 2022, four deaths were recorded from 4 states – Delta (1), Lagos (1), Ondo (1) and Akwa Ibom (1).

Monkey-pox is a rare viral zoonotic infectious disease transmitted from animals to humans that occur sporadically, primarily in remote villages of Central and West Africa near tropical rain-forests.
