A family in Kamacuku village, Tharaka Nithi County, Kenya is in mourning after a woman allegedly killed her husband before hanging herself.

Moses Kirimi’s body was found in a pool of blood in the parking lot of his home on Monday, September 26 morning with the body of his wife, Pamela Wanja, discovered later hanging from the balcony of their four-storey building.

A metal rod with blood stains, believed to have been used to hit Kirimi – a Chuka University architect and head of the estates department – on the head several times, was found next to the man’s body.

There were visible blood stains on a Toyota double-cabin pickup parked as well as on clothes believed to be Wanja’s.

Officers also found a suicide note which seems to have been written by the woman before she hung herself. In it, she apologized to her three children for their deaths.

Confirming the incident, Maara sub-County Police Commander Mohammed Jarso said CCTV footage had recorded a scuffle between the couple on Sunday, September 25 night.

The police boss called on couples not to let domestic quarrels escalate saying, “A couple should have boundaries and remember that they have children. In this case those kids are very young and have been left total orphans which is very sad.”

According to residents, the slain architect attended Sunday service at a church near Chuka University and the couple were later seen at a hotel in Marima market full of joy.

“The two have been attending church together with their children and we know them as a happy couple,” said Charity Karimi, who attended the same church as the couple and their children for years.
