The Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH) has admitted 1,850 as pioneer students for the 37 approved programmes of the institution.
LASUSTECH was formerly known as the Lagos State Polytechnic (LASPOTECH).
It became a university last year following its accreditation by the National Universities Commission (NUC).
Speaking on Tuesday, Olumuyiwa Odusanya, vice-chancellor of the institution, said the pioneer students were admitted out of 16,000 candidates that applied for the 2022/2023 academic session.
This means 14,150 candidates were not admitted by the institution.
Odusanya, who spoke at a media briefing, said the admission exercise was transparent, adding that the new students would resume this month.
“The university received its certificate of operating license from the National Universities Commission (NUC) on February 8, 2022,” he said.
“The NUC conducted a series of resource verification visits in September 2022 and have given approval to commence 37 academic programmes in our five colleges.
“The colleges are College of Agriculture, Engineering Technology, Environmental Design and Technology, Basic Sciences and Applied Social Sciences.”
