King Solomon

Solomon was born in 1000BC in Jerusalem the capital of Israel to King David and Bathsheba. He was also known as Jedidiah.

He reigned between 970 and 931 BC. He is described as the third king of the united monarchy, and the final king before the northern kingdom of Israel and the Southern kingdom of Judah split.

Stories and time of King Solomon was recorded in the Books of Kings and Chronicles of the Bible.

Though Solomon was not the eldest son of David, but David promised Bethseba that Solomon would be the next king of Israel which he fulfilled when his eldest son, Adonijah declared himself king, David ordered his servants to bring Solomon to Gidon Spring where the priest anointed him while David was still alive.

Solomon had a considerable empire from his father. Bible records show that he accumulated enormous wealth and controlled the entire West of Euphrates.



He owned 12,000 horses and 1,400 chariots. He had 4000 stalls for his chariots.
 
All of King Solomon’s drinking cups were solid gold, as were all the utensils in the palace of the Forest of Lebanon. They were not made of silver, for silver was considered worthless in Solomon’s day! 1 Kings 10: 21 (NLT)

He had a fleet of trading ships that sailed with Hiram’s fleet. Once every three years the ships returned, loaded with gold, silver, ivory, apes and peacocks. 1 Kings 10:22

So King Solomon became richer and wiser than any other king on earth. People from every nation came to consult him to hear the wisdom God had given him. Year after year everyone who visited brought him gifts of silver and gold, clothing, weapons, spices, horses and mules. 1 Kings 10:23-25
Solomon built the first Temple in Jerusalem which took him 20 years to build, including his own royal palace.
 
 
He is described as great in wisdom, wealth and power.

Solomon built the first church in the world.

He was the only king tht had peace during the days of Israel - 1 Chronicles 23: 9-10

God gave Solomon very great wisdom and understanding, and knowledge as vast as the sands of the seashore.

His wisdom exceeded that of all the wise men of the east and the wise men of Egypt. He was wiser than anyone else, including Ethan the Ezralite and sons of Mahol-Heman, Calcol, and Dana.

He composed 3000 proverbs, wrote 1005 songs, he could speak with authority about all kinds of plants, from the great cedar of Lebanon to the tiny hyssop that grows from cracks in a wall. He could also speak about animals, birds, small creatures, and fish. And kings from every nation sent their ambassadors to listen to the Wisdom of Solomon.

According to the Bible he had 700 wives and 300 concubines. The wives are described as foreign princesses, including Pharaoh’s daughter and women of Moab, Ammon, and Sidon and of Hittites.

Solomon died in Jerusalem after 40 years as ruler of Israel. He was buried in the city of David.
