Kidnappers Yet To Contact Family of Ex-NBA President Okey Wali Six Days After His Kidnap

Kidnappers of Okey Wali, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN, and former President of Nigeria Bar Association, NBA, have not contacted his family six days after he was abducted in a bloody operation in Port Harcourt, the capital of Rivers State.
The legal luminary’s convoy was intercepted by yet to be identified gunmen in military camouflage who started shooting sporadically at his escort immediately they forced it to stop.
The gunmen killed two persons on the spot and injured policemen who tried to stop them from abducting the lawyer.
They eventually succeeded in escaping with Wali, their prime target.
A source close to Wali’s family confided that there is anxiety over the latest incident involving the senior lawyer because last week’s abduction was his second as he was also kidnapped in October 2014.
The abduction of Wali, who was also a former Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in Rivers State has raised concerns of about the prevailing insecurity in Rivers State.
Several concerned individuals and organized bodies have called for his unconditional release.
The President of the Nigeria Bar Association, NBA, Yakubu Maikyau on behalf of the national leadership of the body in a statement on Tuesday April 18 condemned the abduction of Wali.
The NBA President called on security agencies to ensure the release of the senior lawyer.
He also appealed to the abductors not to harm him, but to release him with immediate effect.
Also, Tonye Cole, the governorship candidate for APC in Rivers State expressed shock over the abduction of the former NBA President.
He condemned the incident and pleaded with the kidnappers to set Wali free unconditionally because of philanthropy and contribution to the development of Rivers State.
Cole also called on the Inspector General of Police, Director General of the Department of State Security Service,DSS and security agencies to expedite and ensure the quick release of the senior lawyer.
The spokesperson of Rivers Police Command, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, said efforts had been intensified to ensure quick release of Wali by those who kidnapped him.
