Fun Ways You Can Get Out and Get More Sun This Year

While the sun’s rays can be dangerous if you’re not careful, they have many health benefits when you prepare accordingly. The sunlight—specifically the Vitamin D you get from it—helps your body in many ways, from improving your sleep to boosting your immune system. However, despite all those benefits, spending quality time outside during the day can be challenging. You can get out and get more sun this year in many fun ways; here are three of our favorite tips.

Start a Garden

Though you may not be a wise gardener with a strong green thumb, you should still consider getting out in your backyard and starting a garden. Yes, you will end up in the dirt for multiple hours each day, but it’s necessary to ensure your garden thrives. You’ll also reap delicious fruits and veggies, and you’ll get the benefits of sunlight. Remember, the sun can quickly go from being your friend to your worst enemy the longer you expose yourself to it. Keep the potentially harmful effects at bay with regular applications of sunscreen.

Take a Road Trip

One of the best ways to get some more sun this year is by getting out on the open road. People love to travel when the sun is out and visit beaches or national parks, but the journey itself can also be fun. Driving with the top down on a convertible is a great way to get some sun on your skin and wind in your hair. Or, get your motorcycle ready for spring and summer again and take it for a spin. Once you’re on the road, the preparation is so worth it.

Watch Some Birds

If you’ve never birdwatched before, this activity can seem boring. However, just because it’s out of your wheelhouse doesn’t mean you should immediately dismiss it. While the birds in your area may not be the most exciting birds alive, it’s still a joy to get outside and spot them in their natural habitats. You can even spot them in your backyard, and if you want to take birdwatching to the next level, consider going on a hike or visiting a national park. The world is full of birds, and each has its idiosyncrasies that you can only appreciate once you’ve developed a proper understanding of ornithology.

Once the snow melts and the sun shines longer, it’s time for you to get out, get more sun, and have fun! A trip to the beach on your motorcycle can be fun, but so is some simple gardening or birdwatching. Find what’s fun for you, pursue it, and don’t forget to put on sunscreen to avoid those nasty burns.
