City Pastor's Teachings
“Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who
builds a house on solid rock. Though the rain comes in torrents and the
flood waters rise and the winds beat against that house, it won’t collapse
because it is built on bedrock. But anyone who hears my teaching and ignores
it is foolish, like a person who builds a house on sand. When the rains and
floods come and the winds beat against that house, it will collapse with a
mighty crash” Matthew 7:24-27
This part of Matthew 7 is like a summary of all that Jesus taught His followers, He taught them how to live a good life, how to make money and be rich, He taught them how they can live without sickness and diseases and how to gain eternity.
All through the book of Matthew 7 Jesus was explaining to people what it takes to live in this sinful world, how to overcome temptations, how to live above sin and how to please our heavenly Father.
He now summarized all His teachings in verse 24-27. He said anyone who have listened to His teachings about not being an adulterer, about not being a murderer, about not being a hypocrite, about giving to the poor, the less privileged and the widows, and that obey and keep all His teachings, is a wise person.
Jesus compares such a person to one who builds his house on a solid rock. When people want to build, they focus more on the foundation of the building than other parts of building. The foundation of a good building most often is usually expensive than the other parts of the building. Houses built on strong foundation hardly collapse. When rain falls on such building, it stands strong and firm, unshakeable; it will not collapse because the foundation is strong.
The same is with a man who feeds on the word of God daily and practices what he reads from it. Because such people have learned the principles needed to overcome temptations, to live a healthy lifestyle, to please God. No matter how strong the winds that blow; even if millions of people are affected, nothing will touch such a person- alleluia!
Such persons may be attacked from the left, right and allover but they will always stand firm and above because they have learned the principles needed to stand.
But Jesus say anyone who have been listening to His messages of ‘Don’t steal, don’t commit adultery, don’t fornicate’ and ignores it, is a foolish person, he likened such persons to someone who would build his house on sand, with very weak foundation.
When there is flood, the rain water will wash off the house or it will collapse, such is likened to a man who hears the teachings and word of God and ignores it- saying it’s for “those born-again people and not for me” or you pretend in public to be good and inside you are an adulterer, a thief and a killer.
No matter how beautiful and how tall a building is if it is not built on a solid foundation it will collapse with a strong rain and flood.
Such persons when attacked by the adversary, the devil, will be vulnerable and will yield to temptation, temptations not overcome leads to sin, sin leads to stagnation, poverty, diseases and even death.
May God Almighty give us the grace to do His will in Jesus name, amen.
