Gunmen Kill Police Officer, Cart Away AK-47

Barely two months after gunmen killed two police officers, a Police Inspector, Jude Ukpaka was shot dead, and his Ak-47 carted away by unknown gunmen in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State.

Vanguard gathered that Ukpaka and two of his other colleagues of Dragon 19, attached to the Ughelli Area Command were at a check point near Evwreni axis of the East-West Road when the unfortunate incident occurred Wednesday evening.

A trader who gave her name as Esther said that armed robbers attack travellers as they were returning from Bayelsa at the early morning at same area before the evening incident.

It would be recalled that two months ago, two police officers, PC Ujeyah Matthew and Sergeant Ijebu attached to Ofuoma division were killed and their guns stolen at Ekredjebor community in Ughelli North which was denied by the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, Edafe Bright.

A Senior security source from Delta State Police Command, Asaba who confirmed the incident to Vanguard on anonymous condition, disclosed that the other officers escaped into the swamp as Ukpaka was shot on right side of his Chest and died on the spot.

“They ran into swamp until they were rescued by a team from Ughelli Area Command, while the remains of deceased officer has been deposited at the mortuary.” He stated.

Speaking further the source who gave details of the attacked on the police disclosed that, “a Senior Police Officer made entry of the incidence and disclosed that One Ak-47 with bridge number, 08266 and unspecified live ammunition were stolen by the assailants.”
