Fasting Is Private

Category: City Pastor's Teachings

By now many of us already know the importance of fasting. Just like praying, fasting is important not just to get our prayers answered but to refresh our minds, our bodies and soul.

Fasting is a particular period dedicated to not eating, no drinking, no wining, and no sex. All pleasures or anything that gives pleasure is done away with when we fast.

But some people fast because the church asks them to fast or because their pastor said they should fast. But it is not only when the church calls for general fasting alone that you should fast. You can be prompted in your spirit to fast too. You can fast to support some things that you are praying to God for.

Fasting is a personal exercise between you and your God. So, when you fast, don’t wear a tired look, don’t look wearied or worn out.

Fast with joy, knowing that you are being purified during the time and also knowing that there is a reward at the end of it.

Matthew 6:16-17

“And when you fast, don’t make it obvious, as the hypocrites do, for they try to look miserable and worn out so people will admire them for their fasting, calling them holy people. I tell you the truth that is the only reward they will ever get. But when you fast, comb your hair and wash your face. Then no one will notice that you are fasting, except your Father, who knows what you do in private. And your Father, who sees everything, will reward you”

So there is reward for fasting, if you fast sincerely. But if your fasting is for people to say you are holy, then all you will ever get for it is the praise from people and nothing from God.

I pray that God will bless His word in our lives that every time we set out time to fast, we will do it well and receive our blessings, in Jesus name, amen.
