The Ondo State Police Command on Friday said it had begun the trial of a man, identified as Bode, for killing one Tunde Akinmoyewa with a dane gun at Laoso Village in Ondo West Local Government Area of the state.
According to the police, the 27-year-old man, who was described as an ex-convict, was shot dead by his friend while testing a new locally-made gun last Tuesday.
However, a source stated that the deceased was shot dead by his friend while testing a bulletproof charm at the village.
The source said, “To test the efficacy of the charms, Tunde asked his friend (Bode) to shoot him first. After Tunde’s friend picked up the guy and shot him (Tunde), suddenly, he fell down and died on the spot.
“Having seen what had happened, the suspect took to his heels before the neighbours arrived the scene and has not been arrested.”
The source also stated that immediately after he was shot, the deceased was rushed to the nearest hospital in the village, where he was confirmed dead.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Mrs Funmilayo Odunlami, said, the command had commenced an investigation into the matter and efforts were ongoing to arrest the suspect.
“Meanwhile, the remains of the deceased have been deposited in the morgue while efforts are in top gear to arrest the suspect.”
