All Leaders: Governors, Senators, Presidents Must Be Able To Say This (1 Samuel 11)

It is not only the time you serve in an office that matters, but it's also important what your life after a political office position is like, when you have retired or completed your terms of office, is very important. Be you a civil servant, or a political office holder, it matters what people say or think of you after your office term ends.

What will people say about you? Will they say, "that thief", will the law enforcement be chasing after you like a mere criminal? Or will the people say, we wish this person remains in this position, oh we wish this position does not have tenure so this man can continue his good work, or we wish he doesn’t get old so that he can continue his good work.

When Samuel (The great prophet of Israel) was old, gray-haired and was about to retire after appointing a new king-Saul, Samuel called the people of Israel to a meeting and asked.

READ: You Must Prove Your Worth Before You Can Be True Leader (1 Samuel 11)

1 Samuel 12:3, “Now testify against me in the presence of the Lord and before his anointed one. Whose ox or donkey have I stolen? Have I ever cheated any of you? Have I ever oppressed you? Have I ever taken a bribe and perverted justice? Tell me and I will make right whatever I have done wrong”.

This is the test of a real leader! How many leaders of today can come out to talk like this? How many senators can say I am open to investigation, please investigate me and see if I have stolen any money, how many governors can say, EFCC, please come and check my books and see if I stole anything from government treasury? How many can say come and checked if I ever cheated anyone, see if I rigged any election? How many judges can boldly say, check and see if I ever perverted justice.

And how many leaders after calling such a meeting of everyone in his constituency, EVERYONE, and the people will not have any corruption allegations, stealing and cheating on him/her in this our present world!

But in 1 Samuel 12:4, “No”, they replied, “You have never taken a single bribe” wow! Just imagine that everyone publicly announced that Samuel never cheated, never took a bribe. How many Nigerian leaders today can people give such a testimony about? How many?

Samuel was declared clean, and free; no EFCC case, no police investigation at all at the end of his tenure in office. Remember in early chapters of this book of the bible, the people wanted Samuel to continue to be their leader, but because he was old and would not be able to continue the work, they asked for a new leader.

All leaders be it political leaders, church leaders, civil servants, should be able to do what Samuel did at the end of their tenure in office.

Praise the Lord!

Bible Quote: “As for me, I will certainly not sin against the Lord by ending my prayer for you. And I will continue to teach you what is good and right. But be sure to fear the Lord and faithfully serve him. Think of all the wonderful things he has done for you. But if you continue to sin, you and your king (Leaders) will be swept away” 1 Samuel 12:23-25
