Ogun Cancels Independence Day Celebration

Category: Nigeria News

The Ogun State government, on Tuesday, declared that the celebration of this year’s Independence Day anniversary will be devoid of the funfair usually associated with such every year.

The state government in a press statement issued in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital and signed by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Tokunbo Talabi, said the reason for the cancellation of this year 2023 celebration was in line with the directive of the Federal Government which stipulated that this year’s Independence Day celebration should be celebrated in low-key.

Talabi, in the statement, explained that the decision by the federal government to have a low-key Independence Day celebration was to reflect on the mood of the nation.

While admonishing citizens to spend the time solemnly praying for Nigeria, the SSG, however, expressed a “strong belief” of the Governor Dapo Abiodun-led administration in the State that supplications of the people at this crucial time will be answered by God.

“We seek the understanding and cooperation of all and sundry as we observe a low-key independence anniversary this year, believing that better times lie ahead of us as a people,” he stated.
