Mohbad's Death: Lagos CP To Give Update Today By 3PM

The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Police Command, Idowu Owohunwa, will on Friday address journalists over an ongoing investigation into the death of Nigerian singer, Mohbad.

The press briefing is reportedly slated for 3 p.m. at the Command Headquarters in Ikeja.

The CP is expected to, amongst other issues, give updates on arrests and invites made by the police in connection with the ongoing investigation.

The Lagos State Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, made the development known Thursday night during a telephone interview with Punch correspondent.

“The CP will be addressing the press tomorrow by 3 p.m. Come with all your questions and he will answer them. Until then, I can’t talk,” Hundeyin noted.

He made this known while responding to an enquiry whether or not the police would invite the late singer’s wife, Wunmi, for questioning following the arrest of Mohbad’s friend, Singer Owodunni Ibrahim, popularly known as Prime Boy.

While denying reports that the duo were arraigned on Wednesday, Hundeyin said, “They were not arraigned for the case itself; they were taken to court for us to get a remand warrant to enable us to detain them beyond the constitutional 48 hours provision, so that we’re not accused of over-detention. And to get the remand warrant we needed to present the people in court.

“And we indeed got the warrant, but I can’t ascertain the number of days granted yet; I’d make it available to you once I obtain it.”

Mohbad died suddenly on September 12, 2023.
