Fela Sends His PA To London To Get Ice Cream And sweets – Seun Kuti

The late Fela Anikulapo's son, Seun Kuti, has revealed how his father used to send his personal assistant to London to fetch him ice cream and his favorite sweets.

Seun shared this insight while enlightening his Instagram followers, emphasizing that being a pan-Africanist doesn't necessarily equate to poverty or suffering.

He stated, "Anyone who claims that being a pan-Africanist means enduring suffering is a liar. Is Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, Fela, also a liar? Do you have more enjoyment than Fela?

"Fela used to dispatch his personal assistant to London to buy ice cream and his favorite sweets for him. The PA would depart Lagos at 10 am and land in London by 3 pm.

"He had to go to Bond Street to purchase Fela's preferred sweet. The PA's name was Femi Bankole Osula, but we called him 'Femi Photo' because he also served as Fela's photographer.

"He would return to Lagos the following morning with the sweets and ice cream. Does this mean Fela isn't a pan-Africanist just because he enjoys licking ice cream?

"You don't have to renounce the pleasures of life for your pan-Africanist ideals. 'I'm not African because I was born in Africa, I'm African because Africa was born in me.' This means that for the little pleasures you desire, you must never betray or undermine your own people. I will never jeopardize Africa for the sake of luxury."
