Upon investigation, they found that the mortician insisted that the body they received was the same as the one they had brought, a claim the family disputes. They alleged discrepancies, noting that the body they were given belonged to an older woman, whereas their deceased was a 26-year-old female. Additionally, they pointed out differences such as the hairstyle – their loved one had short hair before and after death, while the body given to them had woven hair. Furthermore, they highlighted that the body provided had undergone surgery, whereas their relative had never undergone any form of surgical procedure, among other inconsistencies they observed with the body handed over to them."
"Mr. Sopuruchukwu Okeke brought to the attention of the Honourable Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare that, after rejecting the embalmed body forced upon them by the mortician, Mr. Uchenna Ugochukwu Joseph, the owner of the mortuary, began threatening them for refusing the body, insisting it wasn't the one they had initially deposited.
In response to why they hadn't visited the mortuary, Mrs. Rejoice explained that she was apprehensive about going there due to her inability to control her emotions. Furthermore, she revealed that her sister-in-law, who attempted to visit, was denied access by the mortuary attendant, who claimed that pregnant women were not permitted in the morgue.
They also disclosed that during the period when the sister-in-law was attempting to visit the deceased, the mortuary continuously inquired about the burial date, a request they initially disregarded, trusting in the mortuary's services."

"Mrs. Rejoice Odogwu, the sister of the deceased, explained that despite their roots in Ezinifite Okpuno Awka, the late Chinonso lived with her husband in Nkpor until her passing.
She revealed that Chinonso died during childbirth, prompting them to bring her body closer to home for burial preparations. Shockingly, they discovered a fraudulent substitution of her remains in October when they came to retrieve her body.
Mrs. Odogwu added that Mr. Joseph later approached them with a settlement offer of 850,000 naira after the community had been notified of the incident.
The case was subsequently filed and scheduled for a hearing at the Magistrate Court in Achalla."
