Husband Held Responsible for Pregnant Wife's Tragic Demise

The husband of Deborah Fawolere, a six-time mother who tragically passed away at Gbagada General Hospital early Tuesday while three months pregnant, is being accused by the family of playing a role in his wife's demise.

Information gathered from the late wife's sister, Toluwalase Adedoyin, reveals that throughout their relationship, Idowu Fawolere, the husband, consistently engaged in physical violence against his wife, even during her seventh pregnancy.

Despite the husband's denial of the allegations in an interview with Punch Metro, Adedoyin asserts that her late sister had previously departed Fawolere's residence due to incidents of assault and violence on multiple occasions.

Adedoyin revealed, "My younger sister passed away this morning after enduring persistent beatings from her husband. The physical abuse had been ongoing, and we believe it took a toll on her health, especially considering her pregnancy. She had given birth to six children for this man, and the current pregnancy was her seventh, ending tragically.

"Only yesterday, she confided in one of our sisters, detailing how her husband and his elder brother subjected her to physical abuse. She expressed the unbearable living conditions, stating that she no longer had peace of mind and could hardly walk.

"Prior to yesterday's revelation, there had been numerous complaints about the excessive beatings. I urged my parents to intervene and take her away from that environment. Unfortunately, whenever she left her husband, she would return the very next day."

In response to the accusations during a telephone interview with Punch Metro on Tuesday, Fawolere, the husband, dismissed the claims as "fabricated stories," accusing his late wife of deceiving her family.

He stated, "It's not true. I personally took her to the hospital because she wasn't feeling well. After visiting a private hospital, they referred us to the General Hospital. I never laid a hand on her. The only issue that led us to the police station previously was a dispute between her and my mother, where she fought my mother and younger siblings. This incident didn't occur during her pregnancy.

"I wasn't at home during the altercation, and I insisted that my wife couldn't be sent away by my mother since she had children for me. My brother didn't harm her at all. In fact, it was my brother and I who were assisting her to the hospital when she started feeling unwell."

The Divisional Police Officer, Oworonsoki, Bello Taofeek, confirmed to Punch correspondent that the matter had been reported to the division. He stated, "Yes, it has been reported. We've instructed the Investigating Police Officer to visit the hospitals. We are yet to locate the husband and have requested them to bring him in for questioning."
