Ibadan Explosion: Gov Makinde Identifies Company Responsible for Storing Explosive Devices
Governor Seyi Makinde Identifies Company Behind Ibadan Explosion Linked to Explosive Devices Storage
In an interview with Channels Television on Wednesday, January 17, he mentioned that the documents registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) include foreign names. This revelation comes in the wake of the explosion on Tuesday, January 17, at Dejo Oyelese Street in the Bodija area of Ibadan, which led to three fatalities and numerous injuries.
The governor ascribed the incident to illegal miners who had stored explosive devices in a building.
Nevertheless, Governor Makinde announced that one of the victims, currently receiving treatment for the blast at the hospital, succumbed today, elevating the death toll to three.
He emphasized that the explosion was unrelated to banditry or insurgency.
Makinde stated, "The truth is, we have identified the company responsible for storing explosive devices in that specific building. We have a person of interest whom the security agencies should be summoning for questioning. I reiterate my stance that anyone implicated in causing this tragedy will be held accountable."
"It has no connection to banditry or insurgency. It is simply illegal miners who chose to store explosives in a residential area. We are in the process of uncovering the identities of those involved. We've conducted initial investigations into the company, and indeed, there are foreign names on the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) documents related to the company. However, it's still early in the investigation."
The governor reassured the state's residents that his administration has no motive to conceal any information about the incident's cause.
He mentioned that the inhabitants of the affected area were cognizant of the illegal miners' activities in their vicinity but neglected to report them to the authorities.
