Sarah had been childless for so long up till her old age, she was already in in her nineties without a child and knowing the importance of having a child to preserve the lineage of her husband, she approached him and proposed to him that he took their maid-servant, Hagar as wife so she could bear him a son to preserve their lineage.
Hagar eventually bore a son for Ahraham, Ishmael, when Ishmael was already fourteen years old, because of the promise of God to Abraham and Sarah, she eventually conceived and bore a son too, Abraham at this time was already hundred years old.
According to the bible in Genesis 21:9, "And Sarah saw the son of Hagar the Egyptian, which she had born unto Abraham, mocking"
Lots of things must have gone through her head, things like, why did I allow my husband to marry this woman, this slave woman and her son, imagine she's even an Egyptian, now her son is even older than my son in fact with so much age gap, so her son would become the heir to my husband's wealth, the riches we both suffered to have!
I'm sure jealousy must have stirred her anger. And she approached her husband (a very gentle man and an old ma too, who doesn't want any trouble. She told him to send his slave wife and her son away from their home.
One point to note here, Abraham loved his wife Sarah a lot, secondly, it was her who came up with the idea that he marry Hagar so that could have a child.
So Abraham was sad, he didn't know what to do, if he didn't do what his wife, Sarah wants his house obviously would be on fire, there won't be peace!
In Chapter 11 of Genesis 21, ... And the thing was grievous in Abraham's sight because of his son (Ishmael).
But God said to Abraham, let it not be grievous in thy sight because of the boy(Ishmael) and his mom(Hagar). God told Abraham to do as Sarah wants, but God also made this promise to Abraham, see it in verse 12 and 13.
...for in Isaac(Sarah's son) shall thy seed be called. And also of the son of the slave woman (Hagar) will I make a nation, because he is thy seed.
So, regardless of whatever, anything you will become, you will surely become as long as God says so. Your destiny cannot be changed, it might be delayed by human factors, they can use their strength, their resources to try to stop you, but at the end you will achieve your purpose in life as long as you continue to trust in God.
And Abraham sent Hagar and her son, his own first child out of the house with nothing, just a loaf of bread and a bottle of water. Who does that! Can you imagine that! Isn't that a height of wickedness?
People will leave you stranded, they will push you to your dead end and abandon you, knowing quite well that you have no means, they will leave you to die, but you know what? God does not abandon his own.
Hagar and her son left the house into the wilderness where there was no water nor food, with just a loaf of bread and a bottle of water. Left alone to die. I can imagine the kind of heart that Sarah must have to allow this to happen to a little boy of fourteen years old!
People will abandon you, they wont bat an eye, they won't look back, and yet they will be so comfortable, it can be your husband, it can be your wife, it can your parents, just like Abraham did to Ishmael, it can even be your mother, they can abandon you, but believe me, God will not abandon you! You will not be put to shame, you will not be stranded.
Yes, they were left alone in the wilderness, in a strange land, with no one to help, with no money to spend, with no shelter and they live comfortably in mansions, eat good food, ride good cars, but cannot help you with just $100, what a shame!
Verse 17, And God heard the voice of the little boy and the angel of God called to his mother from heaven and told her not be afraid and promised to make the boy a great nation.
Out of no where, help came, they got water, and the boy grew and lived in that wilderness and became an archer (a hunter).
Help will come for you today in Jesus name, amen. In that your abandoned state where they believe you cannot survive, God will visit you today, help will come for you in Jesus name. Just put your faith in God.
Ishmael later got married and had twelve sons each of whom became a tribal chief in one of the regions from Havilah to Shur (from Assyria to the border of Egypt).
He is believed today to be the ancestor of the Arabs. Can you imagine that! Someone who was abandoned to death, who was believed that he could never make it.
So people have abandoned you, they see you as "no good", that you will never make it. What is God saying? Are you listening to them or to God?
What will be will be, no man can stop what God has destined for you to become.
God bless you.
